Learning from the Greats: Edward Weston

Edward Weston worked in black and white with medium and large format cameras. I recently visited his work in the book Edward Weston:The Last Years in Carmel Among other things I learned Mr. Weston worked with his son who also became a photographer.  In Weston's case, his son was instrumental in the creation of some of his works because he was not able to physically do the work of moving the camera and setting things up. Edward certainly had the vision and knew what he wanted to get done, but needed help to execute it.

Occasionally I consider how my interest in photography may translate into an interest for my kids, but usually it is the other way around; I become interested in big digging equipment and dolls. Still I am hopeful that Pascal gains some sense of seeing the world through the influence of his old man.
